Finished. I think think

I think I have finished this portrait study. I had a few changes of concepts around colour and value while painting it. I recorded the process so I am going to try to put together a little time laps video soon.

A little adjustment

I have just changed the background to a more vivid yellow made with raw umber and cad yellow med. I think it works with the figure.

Made up portrait

I've been in the studio a couple of days without any reference material. Just painted this portrait from imagination. I wouldn't recommend it as an approach

Life drawing class. Wednesday evening

Had a very long few days at work so tonight was enjoyable. A great model to work with.  I brought some newsprint to work on with a conte 1730 b pencil. A good combination. Hope you like the images, any comments welcome

A quick sketch outside.

I an just enjoying the cold and warmth of the sun going behind clouds then reappearing.  I produced this little sketch of Carol.  I have started to use a conte 1710 B pencil. You get some fantastic matt blacks with it.

A few images to get started

Well, just to get started I've just edited some images that would be relevant to this blog.  As some of you will know I have spent considerable time as a abstract painter, mostly concerned with formal geometric abstraction. (www.deadbeatstudio.com is my website although I think I am going to change the name)  I have always loved figurative work though and have kept this up over the years.  The images are recent works that I have produced in life drawing classes over the past few weeks, also some work that i have produced while working with students.  I feel that I have a long way to go ( I intend to become a portrait artist!!) but day by day.......

Any comments are valuable and much appreciated...!
